The magic behind the mural

We asked the Loyola Park
painters to describe their
work and what inspired them

Fawna Demma, waitress at the Heartland Cafe
"My pianting is two mermaids. One is Rihanna
because I wanted to paint Rihanna as a mermaid.
Why If I was  her publicist, this is the imang I would
want people to see, Plus, there's nothing like paint-
ing an icon."


Kati Phillips, communications director for Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon
"My family 's been doing painitng on this wall for there years. It's a collabo-
rative effort. It's like the only other time we all get tongether except for may-
be Christmas. The dog in the picture is shredder, my brother's girlfriend's
dog. They used to live in Rogers Park. He's naked in his dream. He's dream-
ing, and there's an evil squirrel and an evil rabbit and an evil crow  on top of
the mural, but an evil crow is kind of redundant."
